Migration safaris
great migration
The Great Migration is the world’s largest overland migration, with over 1.5 to 2 million wildebeest, zebras, and other species traveling more than 800 km each year. The herds move in a clockwise direction, starting from the southern Serengeti, through Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Grumeti Reserve, before crossing into Kenya’s Maasai Mara, and then returning south to repeat the cycle. Most of the migration occurs within the vast Serengeti.
Along the way, about 250,000 wildebeest and 30,000 zebras perish due to predation, drowning, thirst, hunger, or exhaustion. The spectacle draws not only wildlife but also passionate safari-goers, eager to witness the drama of river crossings, predator encounters, and the raw unpredictability of nature. It’s an experience far from the ordinary safari—one that rewards patience and offers a front-row seat to the Greatest Show on Earth.
