Packing the right gear is essential for a successful Mount Kilimanjaro trek.
This detailed Kilimanjaro Packing List by Kilitop Adventure will help you prepare fully for your climb.

We provide high-quality camping equipment, but some personal gear is required. If you need extra items, rentals are available at our office in Moshi before your trek.

Basic Equipment

  • Sleeping Bag: Provided, but bringing your own high-quality sleeping bag is recommended if you have space.

  • Duffle Bag / Rucksack (60–80L): Waterproof and durable; carried by porters.

  • Daypack (30–40L): For essentials such as snacks, water, camera, and extra layers.

  • Trekking Poles: Adjustable poles reduce strain on knees and joints.

  • Water System: A 3-liter capacity is ideal. Bring a hydration bladder and two 1.5L bottles or one spare 1L bottle.

  • Neck Gaiter or Scarf: Protects from dust and wind.

  • Sun Hat: Wide-brimmed for UV protection.

  • Sunglasses: With high UV protection (especially above 4,500m).

  • Headlamp: Crucial for summit night and camp use. Don’t forget extra AAA batteries.

Hands and Footwear

  • Light Gloves: Perfect for mild temperatures on lower slopes.

  • Warm Gloves or Mittens: Heavyweight gloves for summit night conditions.

  • Fleece or Soft-Shell Jacket: A mid-weight layer for added insulation.

  • Insulated Down Jacket: Vital for cold nights and summit attempts.
